Men in general are quite foreign to women. When it’s time for us to buy a birthday gift for them, we often ask them what they want. The usual answer at first is “I don’t know.” The key is to watch what they go to when you take them to Best Buy, Sports stores, and Toy Stores, and clothing stores.

The first thing you must do is watch what they are “into”. If your boyfriend is a Techie take him to Best Buy, Circuit City, or any computer/video store and watch what he goes to look at. Ask him about the video game, or I pod, or computer games, he picks up. Maybe even play a few when you are there with him. Then either buy what he is gushing over, or get a gift card for the store so he can pick it up himself.

Some of you have guys that love sports; they play, watch, and go to sporting events. A ticket to their favorite sporting event, with you at their side is always a good bet. Show interest in the equipment they have to use for their sport. If they play Basketball, they need a ball, shoes, shorts, jerseys; it will tickle their toes to think you went as far as to find a jersey with their favorite team on it.

How about the outdoor guy, the fisherman, camper, and hiker? There is a lot of equipment for these types of boyfriends. Go fishing with him before his birthday, and question at length about what his favorite rod is, and what he would buy if he were buying one for you? A camping guy might enjoy a lantern or an air mattress to sleep on. The Hiker might enjoy a whole day of hiking with you, and some supplies to put in a back pack. A compass might help, along with a small flashlight, or binoculars to see those wonderful sights you two will see on the hikes.

Some men love to dress well. They really appreciate it when a girlfriend picks out shirts that make him more attractive. Take him shopping, and see what he gravitates to, and then behind his back buy it. All men love to look good for their women, so clothes are a good bet. Cologne is also a good bet if your man likes to wear it. When over his house check out what is in his bathroom cologne wise, then buy him some.

Taking a man out to eat is always a winner. Most of the men I talked to liked Steak houses. They also liked places that had TV’s everywhere. Be prepared most of these places are very male oriented. Steak, Potatoes, beer, and all kinds of sports shows on the big TV’s seem to be just what they love.

No matter what you buy, just start watching your guy a few weeks before his birthday, and look at what he loves to do with his free time. Most of guy’s hobbies require a lot of equipment. Just find out what he doesn’t have and buy it. He will be impressed that you actually researched what he wanted and bought it for him. Hopefully he will return the favor when it’s your birthday.
